The subscription, the free trial, what is charged and when, and how to stop. What you may do with an image once you have it is in the Licence, not here.
Plain language, pending legal review.
This page was written from what the application actually does — the data it stores, the companies it hands data to, and what a subscription charges and when. It is accurate about the software. It is not legal advice, and no solicitor has read it yet.
Four things are still outstanding:
- The registered legal entity. Everything on the site — this page, the footer and the Licence — names the trading name "Taste". The company that actually holds the copyright, takes the money and answers for the data has to be named, with its company number and registered address.
- The registered address of the data controller, which a privacy notice is required to give.
- The governing law, and which courts would hear a dispute. That follows from the entity above, so it cannot be answered before it.
- The effective date of each document, and how existing members are told when either changes.
Who these terms are between
These are the terms on which Taste provides https://gotaste.art — the site, the library of images behind it, and the subscription that opens it. They apply to everyone who creates an account, and you accept them when you tick the box on the sign-up form.
Taste is a trading name. The registered company behind it is not yet named here, and until it is, this document cannot tell you which legal entity you are contracting with or under which country's law. That is the first item in the note above and it is being dealt with.
Your account
To create an account we ask for a first name, a last name, an email address and a password. The email address has to be one you can read, because it is where the confirmation link and any password reset go.
Your password is yours to keep. We store it hashed and cannot read it, which also means we cannot recover it — a forgotten password is reset, not retrieved. If you think someone else has it, change it and tell us.
An account is one person. A Personal subscription is one person too. A Business subscription has named seats: the owner invites people by email address, each invited person gets their own account and their own login, and access ends when the seat or the subscription does. Sharing one login between several people is not what any plan buys.
You need to be old enough to enter into a contract where you live. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Licence.
The free trial and what you are charged
Every new subscription starts with a 30-day free trial. Card details are collected at the start of it, by Stripe, on Stripe's own checkout page — but nothing is charged during the trial. If you have not cancelled by the time the 30 days are up, the first payment is taken then.
The plans, and what each one takes:
- Annual Personal Plan: $180 billed once a year, for one person.
- Monthly Personal Plan: $20 billed every month, for one person.
- Annual Business Plan: $2400 billed once a year, for up to 10 people.
- Monthly Business Plan: $300 billed every month, for up to 10 people.
Prices are in US dollars. The amount shown on the pricing page is the amount Stripe charges — nothing is added to it at checkout. If that ever changes, because of tax rules or otherwise, the pricing page will show the change before you are asked to agree to it.
A subscription renews automatically until it is cancelled: a monthly plan each month, an annual plan on its anniversary. If we change the price of a plan you are already on, we will tell you by email before the change reaches your next payment, and you can cancel instead.
What a membership opens
While your subscription is active — including during the free trial — you can browse the whole library and download as much of it as you like, at full resolution, with no per-image charge and no monthly cap.
When a subscription lapses or is cancelled, the library closes. The public pages stay open, and your account stays where it is, so restarting is a matter of subscribing again rather than signing up again.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your account page, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. There is nothing to email and no notice period.
Cancel during the 30-day trial and you are not charged at all. Cancel later and the cancellation stops the next payment: your access runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and then stops. An annual plan therefore runs to its anniversary.
If you think you have been charged in error, or charged after cancelling, email hello@gotaste.art and we will look at it and put it right. Nothing on this page affects the rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
What you may do with the images
That is not decided here. Every image in the library is covered by the Taste Licence, which is a separate document and the binding one. It is linked in the footer of every page and it is worth reading before you subscribe, not after.
In outline, and only in outline: royalty-free use in commercial and personal work, print, film and products; no reselling or redistributing the files themselves; no putting them into another stock library; and no using them to train or fine-tune an image-generation model.
The Licence puts no end date on a file you have already downloaded. What the subscription buys is the ability to download; what governs the file afterwards is the Licence, and it does not expire when the subscription does.
The library changes
Images are added, and occasionally one is withdrawn — because the curation changed, or because it should not have been published. We do not promise that any particular image will still be there next month, and a file you have already downloaded is unaffected when one is withdrawn.
What you see before you download is a lower-resolution preview. The download is the full file.
Downloads are recorded
Each download records which account made it, which image, which version of the file and when. That record is how the Licence can be enforced and how the curation knows what is being used. The privacy policy sets out how long it is kept and what else is held.
What we do not promise
The site will not always be up. It runs on hosting and a database provided by other companies, it is occasionally taken down to be changed, and no uptime is guaranteed.
As the Licence also says, the images are provided as they are and we make no warranty that any of them is fit for a particular purpose. Whether an image suits a given use — legally, commercially or editorially — is your judgement to make.
There is no limitation-of-liability clause in this document. One has not been copied in from elsewhere, because a clause of that kind has to be drafted for a specific business to mean anything and is often unenforceable against a consumer when it is not. It is on the list above.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, this page changes and carries the date of the change. If a change materially affects what you are paying for, account holders will be emailed before it takes effect.
